Garage Door Motors & Automatic Openers
The motor is the part of the garage you notice only when it stops. We repair, replace and install openers for roller, sectional and tilt doors, and can automate a manual door you've been lifting by hand for years.
Opener problems we repair
- Motor hums or clicks but the door doesn't move
- Door stops or reverses part-way
- Lights flash and the opener shows a fault
- Stripped drive gear or slipping belt or chain
- Opener working from the wall button but not the remote
- Power surges or storm damage to the control board
Upgrading to a new opener
Openers have improved a lot. Modern units are quieter, have soft start and soft stop to protect the door, run on battery backup during blackouts, and can be controlled and checked from your phone. If your motor is more than 10–15 years old, an upgrade often fixes several annoyances at once.
Safety beams and auto-reverse
Every opener we install is set up with correctly adjusted force limits and, where fitted, photo-electric safety beams that stop the door closing on a person, pet or car. We test the auto-reverse before we leave. If your current door doesn't reverse when it meets an obstruction, please have it checked.
Manual release during a blackout
Every automatic door has a manual release, usually a cord or lever near the motor. Pulling it disconnects the door so you can open it by hand. We'll show you where yours is and how to re-engage it, and we can fit battery backup so you rarely need it.

Common questions
Should I repair or replace my garage door motor?
If the motor is fairly new and the fault is a single part like a gear, board or sensor, a repair is usually worthwhile. For older openers where parts are scarce or several things have worn, a new opener is often better value.
Can I open my garage door from my phone?
Yes. Many current openers include Wi-Fi or can be fitted with a smart module so you can open, close and check the door from an app.
Will a new motor work with my existing remotes?
Sometimes, but usually not. New openers use newer, more secure code systems. We supply and program new remotes when we fit the motor.
